Why Do Customers Love Our Rugs?
We are one of the most trusted flooring shops, offering both loyal and returning customers the chance to create a rug that really is the perfect fit for their space. Our main supplier of rugs and stair runners is Crucial Trading, and they are a company who, like us, have plenty of experience when it comes to making floors look their best.
So, how do you create a bespoke rug? The following aspects will bring everything together.
Why Choose Custom Rugs by Crucial Trading?
Crucial Trading have been specialists in bespoke rugs for over 30 years, and you can refine your end result right down to the smallest detail. Our customers love them because all you need to do is work your way through the four following steps to design a rug that is perfect for your space:
Size
One of the biggest benefits of opting for a bespoke rug is that it will be the perfect size for your space. This can be particularly useful in rooms with unusual dimensions or layouts. Larger rugs and stair runners are amazing statement pieces, while smaller ones are great to place your furniture around.
Fabric
Fabric is what gives your rug its character, and we have plenty of options for you to choose from, when you opt for a Crucial Trading rug, you will be able to take your pick from their Contemporary, Earthy, Minimalist, Statement, Textured, or Timeless ranges – and we are on hand to talk you through all of these.
Border
Rug borders might seem like a small detail, but they help to protect the edge of a rug and ensure that it can stand up to plenty of daily wear and tear. You can either opt for a bold, contrasting border that gives your rug a clear outline, or choose one in the same colour for a seamless finish – the choice is yours!
A Team You Can Trust
Once you have settled on all the elements of your rug, we will be able to provide you with a price so you can see if your choices align with your budget. You’ll also be able to look at samples and chat to our team and make the most of their expert knowledge.
Whether you have bought flooring from us before and want to finish it off with a beautiful rug, or this is your first time working with us, we’ll offer the same incredibly high level of service and honesty.

Bespoke Rugs FAQ’s
Yes, underlay is highly recommended for stair runners! It’s easy to assume that carpeting your stairs with a runner is different to when you do a whole room, but the same principles apply. Having an underlay in place will help to prolong the life of your runner and will make it much more comfortable underfoot. This is because the underlay acts as a buffer between the runner and the hard stair surface. An underlay can also help keep the stair runner securely in place. This will prevent it from slipping and shifting, which will make it much safer to walk on. Whether a rug should be darker or lighter than the floor depends on the size of the room and the mood you want to create. There’s no right or wrong here, and we make rugs in all kinds of colours for our customers. In smaller rooms, a lighter rug can help create the illusion of space, especially if the flooring is dark. Measuring your stairs correctly is vital if your runner is going to fit perfectly and look its best. Start by measuring the width of the staircase. Most homeowners choose a runner that leaves around 4–6 inches of exposed stair on either side, but the final choice is, of course, down to you. Next, measure the depth and height of one step. Multiply the combined measurement of tread and riser by the total number of steps to calculate the total runner length. If you have any angles, turns, or landings on your staircase, this can become a little trickier. Don’t worry, though, we are here to measure up for you.
